A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

Type of Chemical Peel
There are three main types of chemical peels:
Superficial, Medium and Deep Peels
Superficial Chemical Peel
Superficial chemical peel (alpha hydroxy acid & beta hydroxy acid) is the mildest form of acid. It removes the outer epidermal layer of the skin to produce fresher and brighter appearance, reduces pigmentation and acne scarring, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. The recovery times is relatively quick, with minimal peeling.
Medium Chemical Peel
Medium chemical peel (TCA peel) is more effective at reducing fine lines, acne scars and reduces hyperpigmentation. The recovery period for TCA peel takes longer than superficial chemical peel.
Deep Chemical Peel
Deep chemical peel helps to reduce deep wrinkles. However, it is associated with longer recovery time and increased risk for complications. Due to their intensity, deep chemical peels are considered a more aggressive treatment and may not be suitable for all skin types or conditions.
